هنگامی که او گرفتار شد یا کسی را دید که به رسوایی گناه مبتلا شده است
وقتی گرفتار شد یا کسی را دید که به خواری گناه گرفتار شد دعای شیعه
أَللَّهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ عَلَى سِتْرِكَ بَعْدَ عِلْمِكَ ،
allāhumma laka al-ḥamd ʿalā sitrik baʿda ʿilmik
O God, to Thee belongs praise for Thy covering over after Thy knowledge
وَمُعَافَاتِكَ بَعْدَ خُبْرِكَ،
wa muʿāfaatika baʿda khubrik
and Thy pardon after Thy awareness!
فَكُلُّنَا قَدِ اقْتَرَفَ الْعَائِبَةَ فَلَمْ تَشْهَرْهُ ،
fakullunā qadi iqtarafa al-ʿāʾibah, fam lam tashhurh
Each of us has committed faults, but Thou hast not made him notorious,
وَارْتَكَبَ الْفَاحِشَةَ فَلَم تَفْضَحْهُ
war takaba al-fāḥishata fal lam tafḍaḥu
done indecencies, but Thou hast not disgraced him,
وَتَسَتَّـرَ بِالْمَسَاوِي فَلَمْ تَدْلُلْ عَلَيْهِ،
wa tastaṭṭar bil-masāwī falam tadhullu ʿalayhi
and covered over evil deeds, but Thou hast not pointed to him.
كَمْ نهْي لَكَ قَدْ أَتَيْنَاهُ،
kam nahi lak qad ataynahu
How many are Thy prohibited acts which we have performed,
وَأَمْر قَدْ وَقَفْتَنَا عَلَيْهِ فَتَعَدَّيْنَاهُ،
wa amr qad waqfatanā ʿalayhi fatataʿaddaynāhu
Thy commandments of which Thou hast told us which we have transgressed,
وَسَيِّئَة اكْتَسَبْنَاهَا، وَخَطِيئَة ارْتَكَبْنَـاهَا،
wa sayyi'ataktasabnaha, wa khati'atuartakabnaha
the evil deeds which we have earned, the offenses which we have committed!
كُنْتَ الْمُطَّلِعَ عَلَيْهَا دُونَ النَّاظِرِينَ،
kuntal muttaliʿa ʿalayha duna an-nāẓirīn
Thou seest them to the exclusion of all observers;
وَالْقَادِرَ عَلَى إعْلاَنِهَا فَوْقَ الْقَادِرِينَ،
wal-qādira ʿalā ʾiʿlānihā fawqa al-qādirīn
Thou hast the power to make them public above all the powerful!
كَانَتْ عَافِيَتُكَ لَنَا حِجَاباً دُونَ أَبْصَارِهِمْ،
kānat ʿāfiyatuka lanā ḥijāban dūna ʾabṣārihim
By giving us safety Thou hast veiled their eyes
وَرَدْماً دُونَ أَسْمَاعِهِمْ،
waradamān doona asmāʿihim
and stopped their ears.
فَاجْعَلْ مَا ستَرْتَ مِنَ الْعَوْرَةِ،
fa-jaʿal mā s-tart-a min al-ʿawrat-i
So make the shameful things Thou hast covered over
وَأَخْفَيْتَ مِنَ الدَّخِيلَةِ وَاعِظاً لَنَا،
waʾakhfayta mina al-dakhīlah waʿiẓan lanā
and the inward reality Thou hast concealed our admonisher,
وَزَاجِراً عَنْ سُوْءِ الْخُلْقِ وَاقْتِرَافِ الخَطِيئَـةِ،
wa zājiran ʿan sūʾi-l-khulqi wa iqtiṣāfi-l-khaṭīʾah
a restrainer upon bad character traits and committing offenses,
وَسَعْياً إلَى التَّوْبَةِ الْمَاحِيَةِ وَالطَّرِيْقِ الْمَحْمُودَةِ،
wa saʿyān ilā al-tawbah al-māḥiyah wa al-ṭarīq al-mahmūdah
and a striving toward the repentance that erases [sins] and the praiseworthy path!
وقَرِّبِ الْوَقْتَ فِيهِ ،
wa qarribil waqta feehi
Bring the time of striving near
وَلاَ تَسُمْنَا الْغَفْلَةَ عَنْكَ
wa lā tusumnā al-ghaflata ʿanka
and visit us not with heedlessness of Thee!
إنَّا إلَيْكَ رَاغِبُونَ ، وَمِنَ الذُّنُوبِ تَائِبُونَ.
innā ilayka rāghibūna, wa mina al-ẓunūbi tā'ibūna
Surely we are Thy beseechers, the repenters of sins.
وَصَلِّ عَلَى خِيَرَتِكَ اللَّهُمَّ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ
wa ṣalli ʿalā khīyaratika allāhumma min khalqik
And bless Thy chosen, O God, from Thy creation,
مُحَمَّد وَعِتْرَتِهِ الصِّفْـوَةِ مِنْ بَرِيَّتِـكَ الطَّاهِرِينَ ،
muḥammad wa ʿitratihi al-ṣafwati min barīyatika al-ṭāhirīn
Muhammad and his descendants, the friends selected from among Thy creatures, the pure,
وَاجْعَلْنَا لَهُمْ سَامِعِينَ وَمُطِيعِينَ كَمَا أَمَرْتَ .
wa-ajʿalna lahum samiʿīna wa-muṭīʿīna kamā amarta
and make us listeners to them and obeyers, as Thou hast commanded!
