أللَّهُمَّ يَا مَنْ بِرَحْمَتِهِ يَسْتَغِيثُ الْمُذْنِبُونَ،

allāhumma yā man bi-raḥmatihi yastaghīthu al-mudhnibūn

O God, O He through whose Mercy sinners seek aid!

---

وَيَا مَنْ إلَى ذِكْرِ إحْسَانِهِ يَفْزَعُ الْمُضْطَرُّونَ،

wayā man ilā dhikri iḥsānihi yafzaʿu almuḍṭarrūn

O He to the remembrance of whose beneficence the distressed flee!

---

وَيَا مَنْ لِخِيفَتِهِ يَنْتَحِبُ الْخَاطِئُونَ،

wa yā man likhīfatihī yantahibu al-khāṭiʾūn

O He in fear of whom the offenders weep!

---

يَا اُنْسَ كُلِّ مُسْتَوْحِشٍ غَرِيبٍِ،

yā unsa kulli mustawḥišin ġarībin

O Comfort of every lonely stranger!

---

وَيَا فَرَجَ كُلِّ مَكْرُوبٍ كَئِيبٍ،

wa yā faraja kulli makrūbin ka'ībin

O Relief of all who are downcast and distressed!

---

وَيَا غَوْثَ كُلِّ مَخْذُوَلٍ فَرِيدٍ،

wayā ghawtha kulli makhdhūlin farīdin

O Aid of everyone abandoned and alone!

---

وَيَا عَضُدَ كُلِّ مُحْتَاجٍ طَرِيدٍ .

wayā ʿaḍuda kulli muḥtājin ṭarīd

O Support of every needy outcast!

---

أَنْتَ الَّذِي وَسِعْتَ كُلَّ شَيْء رَحْمَةً وَعِلْماً،

ʾanta alladhī wasiʿta kulla shayʾin raḥmatan wa ʿilmā

Thou art He who embracest everything in mercy and knowledge! (40:7)

---

وَأَنْتَ الَّذِي جَعَلْتَ لِكُلِّ مَخْلُوق فِي نِعَمِكَ سَهْماً،

waanta alladhi jaʿalta li-kulli makhluqin fi niʿamika sahman

Thou art He who hast appointed for each creature a share of Thy favours!

---

وَأَنْتَ الَّذِيْ عَفْوُهُ أَعْلَى مِنْ عِقَابِهِ،

wa-anta allathii afwuhu alaa min `iqaabih

Thou art He whose pardon is higher than His punishment!

---

وَأَنْتَ الَّذِي تَسْعَى رَحْمَتُهُ أَمَامَ غَضَبِهِ،

wa-anta-alladhi tasʿa rahmatuhu amaama ghadabihi

Thou art He whose mercy runs before His wrath!

---

وَأَنْتَ الَّذِي عَطَآؤُهُ أكْثَرُ مِنْ مَنْعِهِ،

waanta alladhi ʿataaʾuhu aktharu min manʿihi

Thou art He whose bestowal is greater than His withholding!

---

وَأَنْتَ الَّذِيْ اتَّسَعَ الْخَلاَئِقُ كُلُّهُمْ فِي رَحمَتِهِ،

wa anta alladhī atsāʿa al-khalāʾiqu kulluhum fī raḥmatihi

Thou art He by whose mercy all creatures are embraced!

---

وَأَنْتَ الَّذِي لا يَرْغَبُ فِي جَزَاءِ مَنْ أَعْطَاهُ،

wa anta alladhi la yarghabu fi jazai man a'tahu

Thou art He who desires no repayment by him upon whom He bestows!

---

وَأَنْتَ الَّذِي لا يُفْرِطُ فِي عِقَابِ مَنْ عَصَاهُ.

wa-anta alladhi la yufritu fi 'iqabi man 'asahu

Thou art He who does not overdo the punishment of him who disobeys Thee!

---

وَأَنَا يَا إلهِي عَبْدُكَ الَّذِي أَمَرْتَهُ بِالدُّعاءِ فَقَالَ:

wa ana ya ilahi 'abduka alladhi amartahu biddu'a'i faqala:

And I, my God, am Thy servant whom Thou commanded to supplicate and who said:

---

لَبَّيْكَ وَسَعْدَيْكَ، هَا أَنَا ذَا يَا رَبِّ مَطْرُوحٌ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ،

labbayka wa sa'dayka, hā anā dhā yā rabbī maṭrūḥun bayna yadayka

I am at Thy service and disposal! Here am I, my Lord, thrown down before Thee.

---

أَنَا الَّذِي أَوْقَرَتِ الْخَطَايَا ظَهْرَهُ،

anā lladhī awqarati al-khaṭāyā ẓahrhu.

I am he whose back offenses have weighed down!

---

وَأَنا الَّذِي أَفْنَتِ الذُّنُوبُ عُمْرَهُ،

wa ana allathi afnati aldhunubu ʿumruhu

I am he whose lifetime sins have consumed!

---

وَأَنَا الَّذِي بِجَهْلِهِ عَصاكَ وَلَمْ تَكُنْ أَهْلاً مِنْهُ لِذَاكَ.

wa anā alladhī bi jahlihī ʿaṣāka wa lam takun ahlan minhu lidhāk

I am he who was disobedient in his ignorance, while Thou didst not deserve that from him!

---

هَلْ أَنْتَ يَا إلهِي رَاحِمٌ مَنْ دَعَاكَ فَأُبْلِغَ فِي الدُّعَاءِ

hal ʾanta yā ʾilāhī rāḥimun man daʿāka faʾubliga fī al-duʿāʾi

Wilt Thou, my God, be merciful toward him who supplicates Thee, that I should bring my supplication before Thee?

---

أَمْ أَنْتَ غَافِرٌ لِمَنْ بَكَاكَ فَأُسْرِعَ فِي الْبُكَاءِ

am anta ghāfirun liman bakāka fausriʿa filbukāʾi

Wilt Thou forgive him who weeps to Thee that I should hurry to weep?

---

أَمْ أَنْتَ مُتَجَاوِزٌ عَمَّنْ عَفَّرَ لَكَ وَجْهَهُ تَذَلُّلاً

am anta mutajāwizun ʿamman ʿaffara laka wajhahu tadhallulan

Wilt Thou show forbearance toward him who puts his face in the dust before Thee in lowliness?

---

أَم أَنْتَ مُغْن مَنْ شَكَا إلَيْكَ فَقْرَهُ تَوَكُّلاً؟

am 'anta mughni man shaka ilayka faqrah, tawakkulan?

Wilt Thou free from need him who complains to Thee of his indigent need with confidence?

---

إلهِي لاَ تُخيِّبْ مَنْ لا يَجدُ مُعْطِياً غَيْرَكَ،

ilāhī lā tukhīb man lā yajid muʿṭīyan ghayraka

My God, disappoint not him who finds no bestower other than Thee,

---

وَلاَ تَخْذُلْ مَنْ لا يَسْتَغْنِي عَنْكَ بِأَحَدٍ دُونَكَ.

walā takhzul man lā yastaghni ʿanka bi-aḥadin duunak

and abandon not him who cannot be freed from his need for Thee through less than Thee!

---

إلهِي فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

ilāhī faṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālihi

My God, so bless Muhammad and his Household,

---

وَلاَ تُعْرِضْ عَنِّي وَقَدْ أَقْبَلْتُ عَلَيْكَ ،

wala tuʿrid ʿanni waqad aqbaltu ʿalayk

turn not away from me when I have turned my face toward Thee,

---

وَلا تَحْرِمْنِي وَقَـدْ رَغِبْتُ إلَيْكَ،

wa lā taḥrimnī wa qad raghibtu ilayk

deprive me not when 1 have besought Thee,

---

وَلا تَجْبَهْنِي بِالرَّدِّ وَقَدْ انْتَصَبْتُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ.

walā tajbahni birraddi waqad intaṣabtu bayna yadayka

and slap not my brow with rejection when I have stood before Thee!

---

أَنْتَ الَّذِي وَصَفْتَ نَفْسَكَ بِالرَّحْمَةِ،

anta alladhi wasafta nafsaka bir-rahmah

Thou art He who has described Himself by mercy,

---

فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ وَارْحَمْنِي،

fa ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālihi wa arḥamnī

so bless Muhammad and his Household and have mercy upon me!

---

وَأَنْتَ الَّذِي سَمَّيْتَ نَفْسَكَ بِالعَفْوِ، فَاعْفُ عَنِّي.

wa anta alladhi sammayta nafsaka bil-'afwi, fa'fu 'anni

Thou art He who has named Himself by pardon so pardon me!

---

قَـدْ تَرَى يَـا إلهِي فَيْضَ دَمْعِي مِنْ خِيفَتِكَ،

qad tarā yā ilāhī fayḍa damʿī min khīfatika

Thou hast seen, my God, the flow of my tears in fear of Thee,

---

وَوَجِيبَ قَلْبِي مِنْ خَشْيَتِكَ،

wa wajība qalbī min khashyatika

the throbbing of my heart in dread of Thee,

---

وَانْتِفَاضَ جَوَارِحِي مِنْ هَيْبَتِكَ،

wa antifāḍa jawāriḥī min haybatika

and the infirmity of my limbs in awe of Thee.

---

كُلُّ ذَلِكَ حَيآءً مِنِّي لِسُوءِ عَمَلِي،

kullu dhalika ḥayāʾan minnī li-suʾi ʿamalī

All this from my shame before Thee because of my evil works!

---

وَلِذَاكَ خَمَدَ صَوْتِي عَنِ الْجَارِ إلَيْكَ،

walidhāka khamada ṣawtī ʿani al-jāri ilayk

So my voice has become silent, no longer crying to Thee,

---

وَكَلَّ لِسَانِي عَنْ مُنَاجَاتِكَ

wa kalla lisānī ʿan munājātika

and my tongue has gone dumb, no longer whispering in prayer.

---

يَا إلهِي فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ، فَكَم مِنْ عَائِبَةٍ سَتَرْتَهَا عَلَيَّ فَلَم تَفْضَحْنِي،

yā ʾilāhī falaka al-ḥamdu, fakam min ʿāʾibatin sataratahā ʿalayya falama tafḍa

My God, so to Thee belongs praise! How many of my flaws Thou hast covered over without exposing me!

---

وَكَمْ مِنْ ذنْبِ غَطَّيْتَهُ عَلَيَّ فَلَمْ تَشْهَرْنِي،

wa kam min dhanbin ghataitahu ʿalayya fa lam tashharni

How many of my sins Thou hast cloaked without making me notorious!

---

وَكَمْ مِنْ شَائِبَة أَلْمَمْتُ بِهَا فَلَمْ تَهْتِكْ عَنِّي سِتْرَهَا،

wa kam min sha'ibah almmamtu biha falam tahtik anni sitraha

How many faults I have committed, yet Thou didst not tear away from me their covering,

---

وَلَمْ تُقَلِّدْنِي مَكْرُوهَ شَنَارِهَا،

walam tuqallidni makrooha shanariha

collar me with their detested disgrace,

---

وَلَمْ تُبْدِ سَوْأَتِهَا لِمَنْ يَلْتَمِسُ مَعَايِبِي مِنْ جِيْرَتِي،

walam tubdi sawʾatihā liman yaltamisu maʿāyibī min jīratī

or make their dishonour plain to those of my neighbours who search for my defects

---

وَحَسَدَةِ نِعْمَتِكَ عِنْدِي،

wa ḥasadati niʿmatika ʿindī

and to those who envy Thy favour toward me!

---

ثُمَّ لَمْ يَنْهَنِي ذَلِكَ عَنْ أَنْ جَرَيْتُ إلَى سُوءِ مَا عَهِدْتَ مِنّي

thumma lam yanhanī dhālika ʿan ʾan jaraytu ilá suʾi mā ʿahidta minnī

But that did not prevent me from passing on to the evil that Thou knowest from me!

---

فَمَنْ أَجْهَلُ مِنِّي يَا إلهِيْ بِرُشْدِهِ

faman ajhallu minni yā ilāhī bi rusdihī

So who is more ignorant than I, my God, of his own right conduct?

---

وَمَنْ أَغْفَلُ مِنِّي عَنْ حَظِّهِ

wa-man ʾaghflu minni ʿan ḥazzihi

Who is more heedless than I of his own good fortune?

---

وَمَنْ أَبْعَدُ مِنِّي مِنِ اسْتِصْلاَحِ نَفْسِهِ

wa man abʿadu minni min istiṣlāḥi nafsihi

Who is further than I from seeking to set himself right?

---

حِيْنَ اُنْفِقُ مَا أَجْرَيْتَ عَلَيَّ مِنْ رِزْقِكَ

ḥīna unfiqu mā ʾajrayta ʿalayya min rizqika

For I spend the provision Thou deliverest to me

---

فِيمَا نَهَيْتَنِي عَنْهُ مِنْ مَعْصِيَتِكَ

fīmā nahaytanī ʿanhū min maʿṣiyatika

in the disobedience Thou hast prohibited to me!

---

وَمَنْ أَبْعَدُ غَوْراً فِي الْبَاطِلِ وَأَشَدُّ إقْدَاماً عَلَى السُّوءِ مِنّي

wa-man abʿadu ghauran fil-batili wa-ashaddu iqdadama ʿalas-soui minni

Who sinks more deeply into falsehood and is more intensely audacious in evil than I?

---

حِينَ أَقِفُ بَيْنَ دَعْوَتِكَ وَدَعْوَةِ الشَّيْطَانِ،

ḥīna ʾaqifu bayna daʿwatika wa daʿwat al-shayṭān

For I hesitate between Thy call and the call of Satan

---

فَـأتَّبعُ دَعْوَتَهُ عَلَى غَيْرِ عَمىً مِنّي فِيْ مَعْرِفَة بِهِ،

fa'ttabiʿu daʿwatahu ʿala ghayri ʿammin minni fi maʿrifati bihi

and then follow his call without being blind in my knowledge of him

---

وَلا نِسْيَان مِنْ حِفْظِي لَهُ وَأَنَا حِينَئِذ مُوقِنٌ

wa lā nisyān min ḥifẓī lahū wa anā ḥīnaḏi muqinun

or forgetful in my memory of him, while I am certain

---

بِأَنَّ مُنْتَهَى دَعْوَتِكَ إلَى الْجَنَّةِ وَمُنْتَهَى دَعْوَتِهِ إلَى النَّارِ

bi-anna muntaḥā daʿwatika ilā al-jannati wa muntaḥā daʿwatihi ilā al-nār

that Thy call takes to the Garden and his call takes to the Fire!

---

سُبْحَانَكَ مَا أَعْجَبَ مَا أَشْهَدُ بِهِ

subḥānaka mā aʿjaba mā ash hadu bih

Glory be to Thee! How marvellous the witness I bear

---

عَلَى نَفْسِي وَاُعَدِّدُهُ مِنْ مَكْتُوْمِ أَمْرِي،

ʿalā nafsī wa uʿaddiduhu min maktūm amrī

against my own soul and the enumeration of my own hidden affairs!

---

وَأَعْجَبُ مِنْ ذلِكَ أَنَاتُكَ عَنِّي

wa'aʿjabu min dhālika ʾanātuka ʿannī

And more marvellous than that is Thy lack of haste with me,

---

وَإبْطآؤُكَ عَنْ مُعَاجَلَتِي وَلَيْسَ ذلِكَ

wa-ibtāʾuka ʿan muʿājalatī wa-laysa dhālika

Thy slowness in attending to me! That is not because I possess

---

مِنْ كَرَمِي عَلَيْكَ بَلْ تَأَنِّياً مِنْكَ لِي،

min karamī ʿalayka bal taʾanniyān minka lī

honour with Thee, but because Thou waitest patiently for me

---

وَتَفَضُّلاً مِنْكَ عَلَيَّ،

wa tafadhdhulan minka ʿalayya

and art bountiful toward me

---

لانْ أَرْتَـدِعَ عَنْ مَعْصِيَتِكَ الْمُسْخِطَةِ

lan artaḍiʿa ʿan maʿṣiyatikal mukhṭiṭah

that I may refrain from disobedience displeasing to Thee

---

وَاُقْلِعَ عَنْ سَيِّئَـاتِي الْمُخْلِقَةِ .

wa uqliaʿa ʿan sayyiāti al-mukhliqaẗi

and abstain from evil deeds that disgrace me,

---

وَلاَِنَّ عَفْوَكَ عَنّي أَحَبُّ إلَيْكَ مِنْ عُقُوبَتِي،

walānna ʿafwaka ʿanni aḥabbu ilayka min ʿuqūbatī

and because Thou lovest to pardon me more than to punish!

---

بَلْ أَنَا يَا إلهِي أكْثَرُ ذُنُوباً

bal anā yā ilāhī aktharu dhunūban

But I, my God, am more numerous in sins,

---

وَأَقْبَحُ آثاراً وَأَشْنَعُ أَفْعَالاً

wa-aqbahu atharan wa-ashna'u afa'alan

uglier in footsteps, more repulsive in acts,

---

وَأَشَدُّ فِي الْباطِلِ تَهَوُّراً

wa ashaddu fil-baatili tahawwuran

more reckless in rushing into falsehood,

---

وَأَضْعَفُ عِنْدَ طَاعَتِكَ تَيَقُّظاً،

wa'adʿafu ʿinda ṭāʿatika tayyaqquẓan

weaker in awakening to Thy obedience,

---

وَأَقَلُّ لِوَعِيْدِكَ انْتِبَاهاً وَارْتِقَاباً

wa'aqallu liwaa'idika intibaahan waartiqabaan

and less attentive and heedful toward Thy threats,

---

مِنْ أَنْ أُحْصِيَ لَكَ عُيُوبِي،

min an uḥṣiya laka ʿuyūbī

than that I could number for Thee my faults

---

أَوْ أَقْدِرَ عَلَى ذِكْرِ ذُنُوبِي

ʾaw ʾaqdira ʿalā ḏikri ḏunūbī

or have the power to recount my sins.

---

وَإنَّمَا أُوبِّخُ بِهَذا نَفْسِي طَمَعَـاً فِي رَأْفَتِكَ

wa innamā ʾūbbikhu bihādhā nafsī ṭamaʿan fī raʾfatika

I only scold my own soul, craving Thy gentleness,

---

الَّتِي بِهَـا صَلاَحُ أَمْرِ الْمُذْنِبِينَ،

al-latī bihā ṣalāḥu amr al-mudhnibīn

through which the affairs of sinners are set right,

---

وَرَجَاءً لِرَحْمَتِكَ الَّتِي بِهَا فَكَاكُ رِقَابِ الْخَاطِئِينَ.

wa rajāʾan li-raḥmatika allatī bihā fakāku riqābi al-khāṭi'īn

and hoping for Thy mercy, through which the necks of the offenders are freed.

---

اللَّهُمَّ وَهَذِهِ رَقَبَتِي قَدْ أَرَقَّتْهَا الذُّنُوبُ،

allāhumma wa hādhīhi raqabatī qad araqqathāl-dhunūb

O God, this is my neck, enslaved by sins,

---

فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ وَأَعْتِقْهَا بِعَفْوِكَ،

fa ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālihī wa aʿtiq-hā biʿafwik

so bless Muhammad and his Household and release it through Thy pardon!

---

وَهَذَا ظَهْرِي قَدْ أَثْقَلَتْهُ الْخَطَايَـا،

wa-ha-dhaa ẓa-h-ri qad ath-qa-lat-hu al-kha-taayaa

This is my back, weighed down by offenses,

---

فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ وَخَفِّفْ عَنْهُ بِمَنِّكَ.

fa salli ʿalā muḥammadin wa ālihi wa khaffif ʿanhū bimannika

so bless Muhammad and his Household and lighten it through Thy kindness!

---

يَا إلهِي لَوْ بَكَيْتُ إلَيْكَ حَتَّى تَسْقُطَ أَشْفَارُ عَيْنَيَّ ،

yā ʾilahī law bakaytu ʾilayka ḥattā tasquṭa ʾashfāru ʿaynayya

My God, were I to weep to Thee until my eyelids drop off,

---

وَانْتَحَبْتُ حَتَّى يَنْقَطِعَ صَوْتِي،

wa-antahabtu hatta yanqati' a-sawti

wail until my voice wears out,

---

وَقُمْتُ لَكَ حَتَّى تَتَنَشَّرَ قَدَمَايَ،

wa qumtu laka hatta tatanaššara qadāmayā

stand before Thee until my feet swell up,

---

وَرَكَعْتُ لَكَ حَتَّى يَنْخَلِعَ صُلْبِي،

wa rakʿatu laka hatta yankhaliʿa ṣulbi

bow to Thee until my backbone is thrown out of joint,

---

وَسَجَدْتُ لَكَ حَتَّى تَتَفَقَّأَ حَدَقَتَايَ،

wa sajjadtu laka hatta tatafaqqa'a hadaqatay.

prostrate to Thee until my eyeballs fall out,

---

وَأكَلْتُ تُرَابَ الأرْضِ طُولَ عُمْرِي،

wa-akaltu turaba al-ardhi tūla ʿumrī

eat the dirt of the earth for my whole life,

---

وَشَرِبْتُ مَاءَ الرَّمَادِ آخِرَ دَهْرِي

wa sharibtu mā'a ar-ramādi ākhira dahri

drink the water of ashes till the end of my days,

---

وَذَكَرْتُكَ فِي خِلاَلِ ذَلِكَ حَتَّى يَكِلَّ لِسَانِي

wa dhakartuka fi khilali dhalika hatta yakilla lisani

mention Thee through all of that until my tongue fails,

---

ثُمَّ لَمْ أَرْفَعْ طَرْفِي إلَى آفَاقِ السَّمَاءِ اسْتِحْيَاءً مِنْكَ

thumma lam arfaʿ tarfī ilā āfāqi l-samā'i istiḥyā'an minka

and not lift my glance to the sky's horizons in shame before Thee,

---

مَا اسْتَوْجَبْتُ بِذَلِكَ مَحْوَ سَيِّئَة وَاحِـدَة مِنْ سَيِّئـاتِي،

mā ʾastawjabtu bidhalika maḥwa sayyiʾatin wāḥidatin min sayyiātī.

yet would I not merit through all of that the erasing of a single one of my evil deeds!

---

وَإنْ كُنْتَ تَغْفِـرُ لِي حِيْنَ أَسْتَوْجِبُ مَغْفِرَتَكَ

wa in kuntata ghfiru li hina astawjibu maghfirataka

Though Thou forgivest me when I merit Thy forgiveness

---

وَتَعْفُو عَنِّي حِينَ أَسْتَحِقُّ عَفْوَكَ

wa ta'fu ʿannī hīna astaḥiqqu ʿafwaka

and pardonest me when I deserve Thy pardon,

---

فَإنَّ ذَلِكَ غَيْرُ وَاجِب لِيْ بِاسْتِحْقَاق،

fa'innadhalika ghayru wajib li bi-istihaqaaq

yet I have no title to that through what I deserve,

---

وَلا أَنَا أَهْلٌ لَهُ بِـاسْتِيجَاب

wa la ana ahlun lahu bi-istiijab

nor am I worthy of it through merit,

---

إذْ كَـانَ جَزَائِي مِنْكَ فِي أَوَّلِ مَا عَصَيْتُكَ النَّارَ;

'idh kāna jazā'ī minka fī 'awwali mā 'aṣaytuka alnār.'

since my repayment from Thee from the first that I disobeyed Thee is the Fire!

---

فَإنْ تُعَذِّبْنِي، فَأَنْتَ غَيْرُ ظَالِم لِيْ.

fa'in tuʿaẓẓibnī, fa'anta ghayru ẓālim lī

So if Thou punishest me, Thou dost me no wrong.

---

إلهِي فَـإذْ قَـدْ تَغَمَّـدْتَنِي بِسِتْـرِكَ فَلَمْ تَفْضَحْنِي

ilāhī fa'in qad taghammadtanī bisiṭrik fa-lam tafḍaḥnī

My God, since Thou hast shielded me with Thy covering and not exposed me,

---

وَتَـأَنَّيْتَنِي بِكَـرَمِـكَ فَلَمْ تُعَـاجِلْنِي،

wa taʾannaytanī bika-ramika fa-lam tuʿājilnī

waited patiently for me through Thy generosity, and not hurried me to punishment,

---

َو حَلُمْتَ عَنِّي بِتَفَضُّلِكَ فَلَمْ تُغَيِّـرْ نِعْمَتَـكَ عَلَيَّ،

wa halumta anni bi tafadhdhulika falam tughayyir ni'mataka 'alayya

and shown me clemency through Thy bounty, and not changed Thy favour upon me

---

وَلَمْ تُكَـدِّرْ مَعْرُوفَكَ عِنْدِي

wa lam tukaddir ma'rufaka 'indi

or muddied Thy kindly acts toward me,

---

فَارْحَمْ طُولَ تَضَرُّعِيْ وَشِـدَّةَ مَسْكَنَتِي وَسُوءَ مَوْقِفِيْ.

farham ṭūla taḍarruʿī wa shiddat masḳanatī wa suʾa maqfī

have mercy on my drawn out pleading, my intense misery, and my evil situation!

---

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad wa ālih

O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,

---

وَقِنِي مِنَ الْمَعَاصِي وَاسْتَعْمِلْنِي بِالطَّاعَةِ،

wa qinī min al-maʿāṣī wa stacmilnī biṭ-ṭāʿah

protect me from acts of disobedience, employ me in obedience,

---

وَارْزُقْنِي حُسْنَ الإِنابَةِ وَطَهِّرْنِي بِالتَّـوْبَةِ،

warzuqni husna al'inabati watahhirni bittawbah

provide me with excellent turning back [to Thee], purify me through repentance,

---

وَأَيِّـدْنِي بِالْعِصْمَةِ وَاسْتَصْلِحْنِي بِالْعَافِيَةِ

wa-ayyidnī bil-ʿiṣmah wa-istaghlinī bil-ʿāfiyah

strengthen me through preservation from sin, set me right through well being,

---

وَأَذِقْنِي حَلاَوَةَ الْمَغْفِـرَةِ،

wa-athiqni halawat al-maghfirah

let me taste the sweetness of forgiveness,

---

وَاجْعَلْنِي طَلِيقَ عَفْـوِكَ، وَعَتِيقَ رَحْمَتِكَ

wajʿalni ṭalīqa ʿafwik, waʿatīqa raḥmatik

make me the freedman of Thy pardon and the slave released by Thy mercy,

---

وَاكْتُبْ لِي أَمَاناً مِنْ سَخَطِكَ

wa-ktub li amanan min sakhatika

and write for me a security from Thy displeasure!

---

وَبَشِّرْنِي بِذلِكَ فِي الْعَاجِلِ دُونَ الآجِلِ بُشْرى أَعْرِفُهَا

wa bashshirny bi dhalika fil-ʿajil doona al-ʾajil bushran aʿrifuhā

Give me the good news of that in the immediate, not the deferred - a good news I recognize -

---

وَعَرِّفْنِي فِيهِ عَلاَمَةً أَتَبَيَّنُهَا

wa'arifni feehi 'alaamatan atabayyanuha

and make known to me therein a sign which I may clearly see!

---

إنَّ ذلِكَ لاَ يَضيقُ عَلَيْكَ فِي وُسْعِكَ ،

inna dhalika la yadīqu ʿalayka fī wusʿika

That will not constrain Thee in Thy plenty,

---

وَلا يَتَكَأَّدُكَ فِي قُدْرَتِكَ،

wa lā yatakaddaduka fī qudratika

distress Thee in Thy power,

---

وَلا يَتَصَعَّدُكَ فِي أناتِكَ ،

wa lā yatasʿadduka fī anātika

ascend beyond Thy lack of haste,

---

وَلا يَؤودُك فِي جَزِيلِ هِباتِكَ الَّتِي دَلَّتْ عَلَيْهَا آيَاتُكَ

walā yauwuduka fī jazīli hībātika allatī dallat ʿalayhā āyātuka

or tire Thee in Thy great gifts, which are pointed to by Thy signs.

---

إنَّكَ تَفْعَلُ مَا تَشَاءُ وَتَحكُمُ مَا تُرِيدُ،

'innaka taf'al ma tashā'u wa tahkumu ma turīd

Verily Thou dost what Thou wilt, Thou decreest what Thou desirest.

---

إنَّكَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْء قَدِيرٌ.

'innaka 'ala kulli shay'in qadīrun

Thou art powerful over everything. (3:26)
