Funeral prayers

Islamic Dream Interpretations by Ibn Sirin

Funeral prayers

Performing the funeral prayers (arb. Janaza) in a dream means interceding on behalf of the deceased. If the deceased is unknown, then performing the funeral prayers in a dream means employment for a jobless person, profits from a partnership, or it could denote failure to adequately performing one's regular obligatory prayers, or being oft-forgetful, and distracted during one's prayers. Leading the funeral prayers in a dream and interceding with exaggerated invocations on behalf of the deceased in a dream means receiving a political appointment by a ruler who is a hypocrite to manage a sector of his business. Invoking blessings upon the deceased in a dream means that God Almighty has forgiven him. Sitting in a gathering where people are praying for those who passed away in a dream means attending a funeral. Performing the funeral prayers in a dream also means interceding on behalf of a sinner. (Also see Death; Flue times prayers; Funeral)

Cases

  • interceding on behalf of the deceased
  • employment for a jobless person
  • profits from a partnership
  • failure to adequately performing one's regular obligatory prayers
  • receiving a political appointment by a ruler who is a hypocrite to manage a sector of his business

Death

If one sees a deceased person performing the funeral prayer over another deceased person in a dream, it means that one's actions are false, for performing a funeral prayer is a deed and dead people have no more deeds to offer. If a married woman marries a deceased person in a dream, it means her divorce from her husband, while if an unmarried woman marries a deceased person in a dream means that she will get married. In a dream, death also means being inflamed with love or separation from one's beloved, whereby life after death would represent reunion with one's beloved or suffering from separation in a hell-fire.

Agony of death

If one sees himself struggling with death in a dream, it means arguing about his religion, or doubt about God's revelations. Death rattling in a dream also signifies preparing to take a journey, marriage of an unmarried person, moving from one house to a new one, changing one's trade or repaying one's debt, or divorcing one's wife. If one sees himself in agony in his deathbed, combating the throes and pangs of death in a dream, it means that he is unjust toward himself or others. (Also see Death)

Cases

  • arguing about his religion
  • doubt about God's revelations
  • preparing to take a journey
  • marriage of an unmarried person
  • moving from one house to a new one
  • changing one's trade
  • repaying one's debt
  • divorcing one's wife
  • unjust toward himself or others

Giving up the ghost

(Death) In a dream, the return of one's soul back to its Lord means remitting of a trust back to its rightful owner, the recovery of a sick person from his illness, the release of a prisoner from jail, or perhaps it could represent a reunion of people who love one another. (Also see Death)

Cases

  • remitting of a trust back to its rightful owner
  • recovery of a sick person from his illness
  • release of a prisoner from jail
  • reunion of people who love one another

Izrail

The archangel of death. Seeing him in a dream means martyrdom if one is inspired by it. If one sees the archangel Izra'il angry with him in a dream, it means that one will die unrepented. If one sees Izra'il standing above him, or battling him in a dream, it means that he will recover from a severe illness. Seeing the archangel Izran in a dream also means longevity, or going through unavoidable circumstances, or experiencing extreme fear. If one sees himself being Izrail in a dream, it means rising in status to govern and to oppress others, or he might become an executioner, or perhaps that some major events may take place at his hand. Kissing Izran in a dream means receiving an inheritance. Seeing Izra'il in a dream also means separations, death of sick people, losses, destruction, fire, bad news, forfeiture of properties, stagnation of the economy, losing one's source of livelihood, imprisonment, breach of promise, forgetting one's knowledge, neglecting one's prayers, obstruction of charities, hindrance of alms distribution, negating the rights of others, retreating to one's privacy, rising prices, bad crop, a tyrant ruler, glass blowing, or bankruptcy. As for one who loves to meet his Lord, seeing the archangel Izran in a dream means attainment of one's goal, fulfillment of a promise, freedom from prison, good news and glad tidings. If an unknown or a common person approaches someone in the street and whispers something in his ear in confidence, the commoner here represents the angel of death. It is said that each human being will see the archangel Izrafl three times during his lifetime, and it is the third time that Izratl, upon whom be peace, will

Relaxation

(Ease; Leisure; Repose; Rest) To see oneself relaxing after toiling in a dream means wealth after poverty, or a happy marriage after a miserable one. If a sick person sees himself relaxed in a dream, it means the nearing of his death, and taking a rest from the adversities and toiling of this world. On the other hand, relaxing in a dream may mean misery, worries and unhappiness.

Robbery

(Burglary; Garding; Possessing) In a dream, a robbery means adultery or usury. If the thief is unknown in the dream, then he represents the Angel of Death. If the thief is known to the owner of the house, it means that he will benefit from his knowledge, his trade, a good word of wisdom, or from someone's advice. If an unknown thief enters one's house and steals his washing basin, or his blanket, or a feminine item, or a similar house item in a dream, it may mean the death of one's wife, or of a woman in his immediate family. If a known thief robs someone of his money in a dream, it means that he slanders him. If it is an unknown old man in the dream, it means that a close friend will backbite him. A robbery in a dream also has positive connotations, except for a swaggerer who lives on betraying others. If one sees himself sneaking up to steal something in a dream, it means that thieves will burglarize his house or business. If one sees himself stealing something in a dream, it means that he will commit adultery or lie. (Also see Thief)

  • the death of one's wife
  • benefit from knowledge
  • benefit from trade
